NEWS - GameSir has launched the Pocket Taco, a compact Bluetooth mobile gaming controller that transforms your smartphone into a Game Boy-style handheld gaming device. The vertical controller, which started pre-orders in early January 2026, is designed specifically for retro and arcade gaming on the go.
Design and Portability
The Pocket Taco features a U-shaped design that clips to the bottom of smartphones, allowing for vertical handheld gaming. Weighing just 62.2 grams (0.14 lbs) and measuring 78×70.9×20.7 mm. It's designed to hold phones of varying thicknesses with or without a case. Its classic gray finish with purple action buttons evokes nostalgia for the original Game Boy era.
Technical Features
The GameSir controller connects via Bluetooth to Android and other compatible devices, offering seamless wireless gameplay. Notice that I didn't mention iPhone compatibility in that last sentence. Both the GameSir page for the Pocket Taco and their current Kickstarter page don't come right out and say that it doesn't work with the iPhone. Weird, right? Let's hope that they are working on it.
The Pocket Taco features membrane ABXY buttons and a D-pad, along with tactile switch triggers and bumpers for responsive inputs. The Pocket Taco automatically powers on when unfolded and powers off when closed, ensuring convenient operation.
The device is equipped with a 600 mAh battery for extended gaming sessions and includes a hollow-bottom design that allows phone charging during gameplay. Soft silicone pads in the clamp area protect smartphones from scratches while maintaining a secure grip.
Customization Options
Through the GameSir app, users can remap button values, enable D-pad diagonal lock, and access full G-Touch and V-Touch support. The controller also supports switching to keyboard mode with remappable button values for versatile gaming setups. Turbo functionality is supported on all face buttons and shoulder buttons.
Pricing and Availability
The GameSir Pocket Taco has a pre-order price of $34.99 USD and available for pre-order through GameSir's website, with shipping starting March 15, 2026. A Kickstarter campaign is also running concurrently, offering an exclusive Atomic Purple transparent version at early bird pricing starting at $30. The Kickstarter campaign runs until March 13, 2026.
