Design and features

The Uni Jetstream Edge pairs a lightweight plastic body with an aluminum grip that has shallow grooves for traction. The grip is slightly wider near the front and tapers back toward the barrel, giving the pen a balanced feel in hand. The click mechanism is plastic but firm.
Tip and ink: why the .28mm matters
The headline feature of the Uni Jetstream Edge is its .28mm tip. As the name suggests, it delivers extremely thin, razor edge lines that are perfect for tiny handwriting, detailed note-taking, and precise box work when you’re organizing planners or journals. Because it’s oil-based ballpoint ink, you get much less smearing than a comparable gel pen would produce.
“That is super tiny, guys.”

Refill and maintenance

Changing the refill requires unscrewing the aluminum grip and pulling the refill out of the barrel. The refill sits snugly and needs a firm push to reseat it when reinstalling. It can feel a little scary the first time you pull it out, but it’s straightforward once you’ve done it. The Jetstream refills are widely available, and if you prefer a bit more line width you can opt for the .38mm model instead.

Writing test and paper performance
I tested the Uni Jetstream Edge in a Hobonichi Techo (Tomoe River paper). The .28mm tip feels a touch scratchier than the .38mm Uniball One gel pen that I normally use, which is partly due to the fine point contacting the paper more directly. That said, it still writes cleanly and produces a crisp, very fine line.

For left-handed writers, the oil-based ink is a big plus because it resists smearing as your hand moves across the page. I found the .28mm to be exceptionally thin; some users will love that precision, while others may prefer the slightly fuller feel of the .38mm or the .5mm options.

Final thoughts
The Uni Jetstream Edge is a ballpoint built for precision. If you prefer gel pens for smoothness, the Edge’s .28mm may feel a bit scratchy at first. But if your priority is a fine, smudge-resistant line and an affordable, nicely balanced pen, the Uni Jetstream Edge delivers. If the .28mm feels too skinny, the same model in .38mm or even .5mm is worth trying.
